Dharwad, June 14: Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) , over the years have made a significant contribution in the growth of rural economy by uplifting poor and under privileged said Ashok Chandra, Executive Director, Canara Bank. He was addressing the staff Members of Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) in a meeting arranged on the occasion of his first visit to North Karnataka region and also to the Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank Head Office on Wednesday.
He further said that as economy is growing, there are ample opportunity for expanding the business even in the rural and semi-urban areas in different segments and RRBs should make best use of it by bringing diversity in lending portfolio.
He also pointed out that RRBs have contributed immensely for the growth of agriculture by providing timely credit and said staff should involve still more effectively for the Socio-economic development of their command area. He also said that digital banking is gaining importance and rural banks should not lag behind in offering digital products to the customers.
Before that, he participated in the Vanamahotsava program of the Bank and planted a sapling.
Chairman of the Bank Shreekant M Bhandiwad, explained about the performance of the Bank and its social involvement. He also briefed him about the steps taken under digitalization.
M Vijayakumar, Director, Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank and Head,Canara Bank Hubli Circle , General Managers of the Bank and other officials were present on the occasion.
