Mangalore: Mangalore Sociology Association and Department of Sociology of University College Mangaluru jointly organized a one-day workshop on ‘Syllabus in Sociology’ (NEP) at Shivarama Karantha Hall of the college on Friday.
In his inaugural speech, MSA Treasurer, St. Aloysius College Sociology Department Retired Professor Dr. Richard Pais said that New National Education Policy will explore the new areas of education and lessen the burden on students with more options. The distant dream of studying in foreign universities can be fulfilled easily.
Chief Guest, Brahmavara SMS College former principal Dr. Y Ravindranath Rao stressed on facing the challenges of NEP and overcoming those successfully. “Teaching, Learning and research should go hand-in-hand. Cyclical changes in education system help us to expand our knowledge, as well as in unlearning the needless. Participating in academic activities is very important,” he added.
MSA President Prof. Shirly Rani K opined that NEP will lift education into next level. So we should be ready to upgrade ourselves. Teachers and students should learn smart work as well as new skills to handle pressure in social and personal life. Presiding over the function, University College Mangaluru Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai said, “we have to go through the hardship during the implementation of the NEP. Serious deliberations can help in this process.”
Informative sessions were held by Mangalore University Department of PG Studies and Research in Sociology Chairman Dr. Vinay Rajath D, AikalaPompei College Department of Sociology HoD Prof. Yogendra B, Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College Department of Social Work PG Coordinator Dr. DuggappaKajekar and Mudipu Government First Grade College Principal Dr. Giridhar Rao.
The 29th volume of the research journal ‘Samajashodhana’ was released on the occasion and MSA general body meeting was also held. Dr. Vidya mastered the ceremony, while University College Mangaluru Sociology HoD Dr. Gayathri N extended the vote of thanks.
