Mangaluru: K. J. George Hon. Minister for Energy Government of Karnataka commended the contributions of Christian leaders in politics, naming stalwarts like Oscar Fernandes, George Fernandes and Michael Fernandes as inspiring examples. "Jesus Christ said, ‘Help those in need.’ Today, people talk about guarantee programs, but the real issue is addressing the actual needs of the people—especially women, who make immense sacrifices for their families." The Rachana Awards 2025, an esteemed recognition by Rachana- Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, celebrated five outstanding achievers in various fields. The Award ceremony was held today October 05, 2025 at Milagres Jubliee Hall, Mangaluru The event was graced by K.J. George, Hon. Minister for Energy, Government of Karnataka, as the Chief Guest.
Further K.J. George praised the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharath Jodo Yatra, saying it wasn’t just a political move but a dialogue with the people and said "The five guarantees launched in the first cabinet meeting have significantly helped families in need. Karnataka now stands as a model because of these guarantees. The youth are the future, and with skill development programs, we aim to equip them for success."
He congratulated all awardees for their exceptional achievements and urged young people to focus on development through training and education.
Bishop of Mangaluru, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, in his Presidential address said: "Rachana has done an excellent job in selecting the rights awardees, they have excelled in their respective sectors and created an identity. Its our duty that with utmost care and love, we must guide young minds."
Welcoming the gathering, John B. Monteiro, President of Rachana, emphasized the organisation’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing excellence within the Christian community.
Award Committee Coordinator Eulalia D'Souza shared insightful thoughts on the selection process, highlighting the rigorous and thoughtful evaluation behind choosing the awardees.

Rachana Entrepreneur Award – Mr. Austin Roach, Bengaluru Sharing his journey, Mr. Roach said "It’s a great feeling to be recognized by our community. I’m extremely happy and grateful. Reflecting on my beginnings reminds me of the roots of my business and how far we’ve come."
Rachana Professional Award – Mr. John Richard Lobo, Mangaluru "I thank my family and Rachana for their support. The future can be better than the present we have the power to make it so. Age is just a number, what matters is mindset. Our goal should be to pursue what we believe in, with unwavering effort."
Rachana Agriculturist Award – Dr. Godwin Rodrigues, Ph.D., Belvai, Mangaluru He stated: "I thank God for each day and for keeping me healthy. It is everyone’s responsibility to connect with our nation and to love nature and its inhabitants. We are called to be kind, gentle, and compassionate to all of humankind."
Rachana NRI Entrepreneur Award – Mr. Pratap Mendonca, Dubai, UAE In his message, he shared: "Today is a very important and memorable day for me. I thank God. What you achieve today will not be enough for tomorrow. Every day is a new opportunity to learn—and that is the key to success."
Rachana Outstanding Woman Award – Ms. Shobha Mendonca, Dubai, UAE Reflecting on her journey, she said: "Being recognized within my own community is something I will cherish forever. In a male-dominated industry, and without a technical background, I turned challenges into opportunities. Trust yourself—every challenge is a step toward growth."

Guest of Honor MLC Ivan D'Souza said: "Every awardee is a high achiever in their field. Christian leaders have always been exemplary. For those committed, the sky is the limit. Challenges abound, especially with recent debates around conversions and proposed legislation. We need strong community voices to respond. In the past, Christians owned many businesses in Mangaluru, but today many have moved away. We must re-establish our identity through our work. Priests and nuns have built this society—this is a legacy we must carry forward."
