Mangalore: The new National Education Policy - 2020 is designed for the comprehensive growth of a kid. It is concerned about education in a free environment and also about the food and health of the child, said Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya.

He inaugurated ‘Makkala Hakkugala Masothsava- 2021’ organised by the district Makkala Hakkugala Masothsava Committee and District Education Resource Centre at University College Mangaluru here on Wednesday. “We need to be introspective about our responsibility in alleviating the pain of a child,” he added and assured that the university would support all efforts to bring orphan children to the mainstream.

Chief Guest, Mental Health Expert Dr. Rameela Shekhar shed light on the well-being of children, the dangers of contacts, and the risks posed by behaviour. Co-convener of the committee Rennie D'Souza said “although the number of POCSO cases are in rise, 90% of schools do not have a child protection policy. We will force the government to implement it”.

Principal of the College Dr. Anasuya Rai, the committee convener Manju Vitla and the student representative Gayathri were present. Ashalatha Suvarna welcomed the guests. Federation of District Education Resource Centres Secretary Riyaz, PADI Program Manager Naveen Kumar were present among others.

Programs will be held in various parts of the district till December 11 with a slogan- 'Magu Snehisamajakkagi Makkala Hakkugala Masotsava'.
