Mangalore: The felicitation of Dr Venkatesh BM on the occasion of completing 25 glorious years of service at Father Muller Medical College was the icing on the cake at the CME organised by the department of Medicine, Father Muller Medical College Hospital . Dr. Venkatesh B.M. was born on 7th April 1965 in Balehonnur, Chikmagalur. After completing his early education at Bannur and Puttur, he completed his under graduation from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore in 1983 and post graduation from JJM Medical College, Davanagere with academic laurels. He joined the Father Muller family and rose up to the ranks of Professor and head of department of Medicine. During his tenure as Head, he contributed significantly to the accreditation of NAAC and NABH and took the department and the institution to greater heights.
As organising chairperson, he conducted KRSSDI, a state level diabetes conference in FMMC in 2014. He has been instrumental in conducting various guest lectures, CME’s; state, national and international conferences in the department of medicine at FMMC as a faculty and head.
As a commitment to the dept, he installed the late B T Manjappa Gowda & Chinamma award; a Best Outgoing Post Graduate Silver Medal award in his parents name.
The best seminar award for undergraduates in the department of medicine was also started in his tenure.
As chairman of the library committee, he was instrumental in celebrating the first National library day in Dakshina Kannada.
He has served as secretary and president of API, DK chapter.
Dr Venkatesh BM completes 25 years of service as of 14.11.19 and he has effortlessly set an example of humility sincerity and perseverance to all his students and colleagues.
The felicitation was presided over by the Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Rev. Fr Richard A. Coelho. Graced by the Chief Guest, Dr Ramesh Pai, Professor of Medicine and Former Dean, A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences. The Presence of the Administrator, FMMCH, Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator, FMMC, Rev. Fr Ajith Menezesans Assistant Administrator, Rev. Fr Nelson D. Pais made the event more sparkled.
The welcome address and the introduction of the chief guest was done by the Department of Medicine, Prof & Head. Dr (Col.) Arunachalam R, who so eloquently welcomed the eminent people on the dais. Dr Ramesh Pai, who was the mentor and guide of Dr Venkatesh, captivated everyone with his speech. He said, that a teacher feels ever proud on the success of his ward and hence was grateful to Dr Venkatesh to have him as the chief guest for the occasion.
The Director, FMCI, was proud of the department’s efforts in bringing in solace to the patients and moreover on the collaborative workmanship among themselves. The recognition of each other’s success and milestones is only celebrated in this department and need to be done by the rest too. He thanked on behalf of the Diocese of Mangalore and the Preseident of FMCI, Rev. Fr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Venkatesh for his untiring and selfless service to the institution and his motherland.
The august gathering bore witness to the honour which the management and staff bestowed on Dr Venkateash B.M., through the gifting of silk shawl, garland and the peta, with fruit basket. The Dean and Professor of Medicine, FMMC, Dr Jayaprakash Alva, presented a statue of God Venkatesh as a mark of honouring. The citation was read by Dr Nagaraj and presented to Dr Venkatesh along with Dr K.S. Bhat.
In his reply to the honor bestowed, Dr Venkatesh profoundly thanked God Almighty for the gift of his parents and teachers. He was proud of the traditions followed at Father Muller’s, especially in the department of Medicine. He thanked the innumerable patients and students who have made him a physician and mentor today. He advised everyone that dedication , discipline and service should be the principle in which a doctor should work and not wait for it to be recognised. Punctuality is a must to keep all the above knotted, love and respect to others and ones own are the corner stones to ones success. He thanked his wife Preethi Venkatesh, Mother-in-law, Gayathri R. And his son, Sathvik for understanding his dedication to his profession and being there all the time.
