Puttur: The valedictory ceremony of Philo Carnival 2025, the Postgraduate Fest of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, was held at the Silver Jubilee Hall on Tuesday. The event was graced by Violet Nataliya Pinto, Proprietor of Imperial Furniture, Puttur, who served as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Pinto encouraged students to actively participate in such fests, stating that they play a crucial role in developing essential life and professional skills. “Winning is secondary; participation and learning are what matter most,” she emphasized.
Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, Registrar (Academics) of the college, presided over the ceremony. In his presidential address, he reinforced the importance of participation over victory, urging students to embrace every opportunity for personal growth through co-curricular involvement.
Also present on the dais were Prof. Ganesh Bhat Coordinator of the Department of Mathematics; Srimani, Head of the PG Department of Social Work; Vipin Naik, Head of the PG Department of Physics; and Harshith, Head of the PG Department of Commerce.
Organized collaboratively by the PG Departments of Social Work, MSc Physics, Mathematics, and M. Com, the fest witnessed vibrant participation from around 34 teams representing various postgraduate colleges in and around Puttur. The competitions spanned multiple categories, offering a platform for students to showcase their academic, creative, and interpersonal talents.
In the Social Work category, Akshaya College, Puttur clinched the Overall Champions Trophy, while Government First Grade College, Sullia was declared the Runner-up.
In the M.Sc. Physics and Mathematics category, Vivekananda College, Puttur emerged as the Champion, with Alva’s College, Moodbidri taking the Runner-up position.
For the M. Com stream, Akshaya College, Puttur once again stood out as the Overall Champion, and Vivekananda College, Puttur was named Runner-up.
The programme was well attended by faculty members from various departments and student participants. Saranya extended a warm welcome, Rachel compered the event and Neha delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all contributors and participants who made the fest a grand success.
