Sringeri: A hill has collapsed on National Highway 169 near Nemmar village in Sringeri taluk of Chikkamagaluru. It is raining continuously in the Malnad region. Due to the rains for six months, the moisture in the ground has increased. Due to this, the soil of the hill is collapsing repeatedly. Mud and stones have fallen on the road. Vehicular traffic on the Sringeri-Mangalore route has been stopped. Due to this, passengers are facing problems. Due to this, the Sringeri-Karkala road has been closed. The district administration has taken immediate action and is carrying out road clearance work. Due to the moisture in the ground due to the rain, the hill is collapsing more and more.
The district administration has immediately started working. National Highway officials, police and JCB machines are at the spot. Vehicles were stopped as soon as the hill collapsed. Work is underway to clear the mud and stones. JCB machines are working to repair the road.
District administration warning :
The district administration has issued a warning to locals as heavy rains continued across the district. "If the heavy rains continue, there is a possibility of more landslides," it said. Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes. Police and panchayat officials are helping in the road clearance work.
