Mangalore: On April 18, 2024, St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) hosted a significant event as part of its Interfaith Harmony program, celebrating Eid ulFitr under the theme "Feast of Faith and Charity". The event was graced by esteemed guests and highlighted the importance of religious unity and understanding.
The distinguished Chief Guests for the occasion were Fr. Joachim Fernandes, Director of Small Christian Community; DiwanKeshav Bhat, President of Sadbhavana Vedike, Jeppu Vartula, Mangaluru; and Dr. UT Ifthikar Ali, Syndicate Member of RGUHS, Karnataka. Each delivered a thought-provoking message on the significance of interfaith harmony.
Fr. Joachim Fernandes emphasized the importance of the feast and advocated for the application of the five virtues of Islamic faith, including prayer, fasting, charity, and visits to holy places.
DiwanKeshav Bhat highlighted the role of discipline in learning and stressed the integration of interreligious programs into academic curricula to foster mutual learning among students.
Dr. UT Ifthikar Ali underscored the festive mood of various festivals during the season and emphasized the importance of religious unity in celebrating these festivals, showcasing the best of human behavior.
The event also featured a Presidential Address delivered by Rev. Dr. Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, Pro Vice Chancellor of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and included Guest of Honor, Rev. Fr. Vincent Pinto SJ, Finance Officer, along with Registrars Dr.AlwynDsa and Dr. Ronald Nazareth.
The program was impeccably organized by Shameena and Dr. Sana Sheikh, with Vidya and Aavya serving as competent comperes.
