London: Former India spinner Dilip Doshi passed away in London on Monday night at the age of 77, the Saurashtra Cricket Association said. Doshi is survived by a son and a daughter. He played 33 Tests and 15 ODIs for India and was a prominent player in domestic cricket.

Despite his stellar performance in domestic cricket, Doshi was a latecomer to international cricket. He made his debut at the age of 32. He played for India from 1979-83, taking 114 wickets in 33 Tests, including six five-wicket hauls.

He took 22 wickets in 15 ODIs. Doshi, who made his domestic debut in the 1968-69 season, played 238 first-class matches until his retirement in 1986. and took 898 wickets. During this time he represented Bengal and Saurashtra. He has been based in London since his retirement.

Cheteshwar Pujara paid tribute to Doshi after the end of the day's play in the Leeds Test match on Monday. The BCCI also expressed its condolences.

Former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah also expressed his condolences, saying it was a very painful and personal loss for him. "Dileep was not only one of the legendary cricketers, but also one of the best human beings I have known. His noble heart, integrity and invaluable dedication to the game made him truly special," Shah said.
