Mangalore: In the cases of Suhas Shetty murder in Bajpe and Ashraf mass murder in Kudupu, the police have investigated the case based on scientific evidence. If you have any evidence, please provide it directly, said Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudhir Reddy.
He spoke at the Police Commissioner's office, giving a comprehensive account of the investigation conducted by the police in the cases of Suhas Shetty murder in Bajpe and Ashraf murder in Kudupu.
The Suhas Shetty case has currently been handed over to the NIA, while the police are continuing the investigation in the Ashraf case. More than 100 people have already been questioned in this case. So, the public should not have any doubts or suspicions. Stop expressing doubts about the police investigation and posting on social media, if you have evidence, bring it to us directly. No one is above the law. We do not ignore any evidence. But anyone who misleads the investigation and leads the public astray will also be accused according to the law. The police have taken transparent action in both these cases. In other cases too, the police take action in accordance with the law. No one will face any problem. Similarly, Commissioner Sudhir Reddy clarified that the guilty cannot be spared.
In the Suhash Shetty case, three or four types of suspicions were expressed by the social circle. The place was fixed and a pre-planned plan was made. Two women cooperated in the escape of the accused, but they were not investigated.
When looking at the CCTV, it was alleged that more than 50 people had gathered and not all of them were arrested. In that case, all kinds of evidence, including the vehicle that followed Suhas Shetty, who had gathered curiously to watch the accident that had occurred at that place shortly before, and the vehicle that followed Suhas Shetty, have been considered and interrogated. Information about the suspicions has also been provided to the concerned through video records.
In the Ashraf murder case, the police also identified the accused based on the slippers and shoes that were near the deceased's photo that the police initially obtained. In this case too, when some of the accused were attacking the deceased, a cricket game was going on in the distance. But those who were present there cannot be considered as accused. The investigation is based on the statements of the main accused. Action has also been taken against the police for the lapses committed by the police in the beginning. However, the case is being investigated completely on the basis of scientific evidence. I will be in the office for two more days. Commissioner Sudhir Reddy said that if anyone has evidence about this case, please bring it.
Commissioner Sudhir Reddy also gave a clear message about social media posts, and said that if there is any objection or doubt about the police operation without any evidence, a notice will be issued and an inquiry will be conducted. If there is evidence, it should be provided. If there is any doubt, there is no room for it in the law. It is our duty as police to provide justice along with protecting the safety of all citizens of Mangaluru. We will do that, he said.
The public should not have any doubts or worries that those who make hate speeches will get bail easily. The police have no problem in dragging such people from the stage where they make hate speeches. The police work in favor of the truth and transparently. The public should not have any doubts about this, Commissioner Sudhir Reddy said.
Under the law, bail can be obtained from the court regarding hate speech. However, in cases where public interest is affected, appropriate action will also be taken under the law against those who repeat such hate speeches. He said that there is a right to speak in a democracy. But if the speech goes astray, appropriate action is also provided for in the Indian Penal Code.
Those who write baseless and baseless statements on social media without any documentation and those who make hate speech should be careful. He warned that strict action will be taken if they do not do so.
