New Delhi, March 29: The date for the Karnataka state assembly election is likely to be announced today. The Election Commission of India has called a press conference at 11:30 am today in Delhi regarding the conduct of elections to the 224 assembly constituencies of the state.

A press conference has been called at the Election Commission office and the date will be announced by the Central Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.

The code of conduct will be enforced in the state from the moment the election is announced today. The Election Commissioner who will announce the date of election today will announce the date of submission of nomination, verification of nomination, date of polling, and date of result.

The polling should be held within 45 days from today and it is likely that the date of polling will be fixed in the first week of May.
