Mangalore, June 28:  A young woman who had come from Chennai to attend her brother's funeral died in a road accident in Mangalore.

Shruti (27), a resident of Bangrakulur, who was seriously injured in an accident between a car and an Activa that occurred on National Highway 66 near Pavanje, breathed her last at a private hospital without receiving treatment. Shruti's father Gopalacharya (57) suffered serious injuries to his leg in the incident and is recovering in the hospital.

According to police reports, the accident occurred due to Prashanth, a resident of Honnavar, driving at high speed and recklessly. A case has been registered in this regard at the Traffic North Police Station. It is learnt that Bhaskara Shetty was travelling from Manipal to Kasaragod in the car.

According to eyewitnesses, Gopalacharya and Shruti were standing near Seeya's shop to put on their raincoats as it was raining. At that time, a speeding car ran over them and the accident occurred.

The Gopalacharya couple had two children, Shruti and Sujith. Shruti's brother Sujith (24) had passed away on June 10. Shruti, who was the elder sister, was a computer engineering graduate and worked as a software employee in Chennai. Family sources said that she was talented even as a student.
