Mangalore: Women’s cell of St Agnes College (Autonomous) in association with Alumni association celebrated the International Women’s day on 8th March 2023 at the Auditorium-Mother Mary Aloysia Centenary block from 11am-12:30 pm. Olga Noronha, Alumna and Retired staff-Department of Economics, St Agnes College (Autonomous) was the Chief guest for the program. The Principal, Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., Vice Principal, Sr Clera A.C., Blairil Vishma Dcunha, Coordinator of Women’s cell, Joint Secretary of Alumni association Asha Dsouza were present for the program. The programme began with a prayer song by the college choir. A classical welcome dance was performed by the students. Sr Dr M Venissa A.C. welcomed the gathering.
The chief guest Olga Noronha, spoke on being a strong woman and never give up on anything. She gave her insights on International women’s day and gave a call to everyone to strive hard and to understand the essence of womanhood. She concluded by saying that a woman is someone who never gives up. She is an epitome of courage.
Prizes were given to the students for the various competitions conducted by the Women’s cell during the Women’s week.
Later a folk dance on the grace, charm and benevolence of women who have contributed to the folk culture was depicted by the students.
The Alumni association member Marjorie Texeira delivered a speech on Women empowerment. She spoke about the various facts and figures referring to women in the current society. She emphasized the need to support and walk hand in hand with women. Later an act on “Women who made History” was played which depicted various Historical women who have given significant contributions to the society. The Alumni association felicitated the students under various categories. They include Agnesian outstanding leader, Most talented Agnesian, Best Scholar and Best sports woman.
Vasudha, Physical Education Director of the college was honoured for participating in Master’s championship at Sri Lanka and winning first place in hammer throw and second place in shot put.
Shivani Montiero from III B.Com. was honoured for securing 3rd rank in the country and 7th rank worldwide in financial management paper of ACCA.
Sr Dr M Venissa A.C. presided over the programme and congratulated all the student achievers and wished them the best.
All in all it was a wonderful program that emphasized the significance of womanhood and expressed the essence of women in the society.
Saniya Khan M K of final year B.Sc compered the programme. Vivid Dsouza, Secretary-Alumni association proposed the Vote of thanks.
The program ended with the college anthem.
