Mangalore: To remove sand from pond and streams district in-charge Kota Srinivas Poojary has ordered to mark the place where the sand is available withing 15 days.
Speaking in the meeting on Monday August 10 he said " Under the leadership of Tahashildar the officers of Public Works and forest and mine department and PDO a joint team should review the location and report to the district committie"
The minister said that a joint site inspection report would be submitted with the recommendation of the Taluk Sand's Committee.
The sand policy allows for the use of light vehicles such as tractors and pickups to transport sand, due to the low usage of such vehicles in Dakshina Kannada district, it is decided to allow 407 mini lorries and light tippers to carry sand.
The Karnataka State Mineral Corporation will be given authority to do the mining of sand available in the rivers and streams. They will be handed over 30 blocks that have already been identified. Similarly, Kota Srinivasa Poojari said the team of officials will conduct a joint inspection and report on the availability of sand in the dam, reservoir, dams and backwater areas.
As 700 Rs. per ton will be available to the public, It is thought to reduce this rate even more.
There are 14 sand blocks in the district under CRZ. The Minister said the matter would be taken up in Bangalore within 3-4 days and a final decision would be taken in the meeting with minister of Mining.
The meeting was attended by legislators Umanatha Kotyan, Rajesh Naik, Vedavyas Kamath, Dr. Bharat Shetty, ADC Roopa, DCP Arunanshu Giri, Mines Department Deputy Director Ranji Naik and others were present.
