Mangaluru: The monthly meeting of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee was held on Thursday at the Congress Bhavan in Mallikatte, Mangaluru, under the leadership of District President K. Harish Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion, he criticized the central government for the security lapse that led to the killing of 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam. When Congress leaders tried to raise the issue in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, instead of responding properly, diverted public sentiment with false narratives. The Congress had strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and had extended support to the central government for taking strict action against the conspirators. However, the Prime Minister’s attempts to politicize the incident are shameful, he added. Despite calling for an all-party meeting twice, the Prime Minister failed to attend. Congress has a history of fighting for the nation, and no attempt to discredit the party will succeed, he asserted.

He further stated that the upcoming Town Panchayat elections in Kadaba on August 17 should be taken seriously, and efforts must be made to ensure the victory of Congress candidates. He urged leaders and workers to become active immediately and instructed block presidents to organize meetings by August 30 in every assembly constituency involving former ZP and TP members, elected Gram Panchayat representatives, and even defeated candidates.

Condemning the irregularities being committed under the guise of voter list revision, he called upon Congress leaders and workers from the district to participate in large numbers in the protest organized by KPCC on August 5 in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, and make it a success.

The meeting was attended by former MLA Shankula Shetty, former KPCC General Secretary Padmaraj Poojary, General Secretary M.S. Mohammad, Mooda President Sadashiv Ullal, leaders K.K. Shahul Hameed, K. Appi, Usha Anchan, Jokin D’Souza, Dinesh Muluru, Ibrahim Nawaz, Shalet Pinto, Suhan Alva, Chetan Bengre, along with block presidents, district frontal wing leaders, and other Congress office bearers.

Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde welcomed the gathering. Before the meeting, condolences were paid to the recently deceased former Zilla Panchayat member Kunji Palli (Sullia), Bantwal Municipality member Janardhan Chentimar, former ZP member Chandralingam, and district NSUI Vice President Omshree.
