Udupi:- Childhood is important period of life in building ones personality. Adverse childhood experiences (ACE) can lead to long term physical and psychological implications in person’s life. ACEs can lead to depression, Anxiety, inferiority, obsessive compulsive behaviour in their later life. Parental alcoholism can be one of the causes of ACEs in children. Uncertainty and insecurity due to parental alcoholism and parental discard can lead to emotional and behavioural problems in children. It can also result in poor academic performance.

Research shows increased risk of COA starting alcohol use early in their life compared to their peers with non alcoholic parents. Hence there is need to provide healthy environment to these COA by responsible adults in their life. It can be anyone, a teacher, Doctor, or a friend by giving them assurance that “You are not alone”.

National Association of children of alcoholics is working for betterment of COA’s across the world. Dr.A V Baliga Memorial hospital, Udupi in association with NaCOA, UK organising COA Week 2021 from February 14thto 20th. As a part of this week clay art display, cartoon exhibition, sand art, TV and radio talks on the theme. Workshops for social work students and nursing  students and teachers are being planned. Inaugeral program of COA week 2021 wii be held on Feb.14th 9:30 am at Dr. A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital. Dr. P.V. Bhandary director Dr. A.V.
