The 5th edition of the NITK Karavali Marathon organisedby NITK Alumni association is an annual event with an enduring purpose to promote fitness & healthy lifestyle amongst students and create social awareness amongst the people of the Karavali region. This run started out as the beach run in 2015 (only one of its kind) gained momentum in years and 2019 edition was the first full marathon that was inaugurated by PT Usha with over 2000 participants. In addition to promoting #Fit India Movement, the 2020 edition of the Karavali Marathon will drive awarenesson “Combat Climate Change “and call to action in Karavali region.

 International Athlete, Arjun awardee Arjun Devaiah is this year’s Brand Ambassador, and has taken keen interest in promoting the fitness culture. Born in Kodagu, Arjun has won 9 international medals in sprint events and is the only athlete to national record in 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay at the same time. Model, Kannada Lead Actress, Femina Style Diva South winner and Karavali girl Krishnaa Bhat is theCrusader of the Karavali Marathon promoting the cause amongst youth.

The NITK Karavali Marathon 2020 that will be held on 12th January 2019(Sunday) and it will be a special edition as part of NITK Diamond Jubilee year celebration. Event organisation is supported by Rotaract Club and the NITK Students’ Council, and perhaps the only full marathon (41.2 kms) in India that is entirely conducted by students. More than 4000 runners are expected to participate. The unique feature of the run is that the part of marathon trail is on the scenic NITK Surathkal beach, along the beach side temple and lighthouse.

The event also includes half marathon (21.1 kms), 10 kms, 5 kms races and a 3kms fun run. The event that is open to men, women and children above 10 years, has a low registration fee and carries a total prize money of Rs 3 lacs, plus sports coupons worth Rs 2 Lacs. Participants will get T-shirts, timing certificate, race photo, immediate results via SMS, physio support for recovery, food and entertainment.
