Rotary Club of Mangalore Sunrise (Club # 31296) in Rotary International District 3181 (formerly 3180), was chartered on 12th February 1996. It is the only club in the erstwhile undivided RI district to meet on a Sunday morning. Its members are from various professions and are engaged in several charitable, social service, community development, empowering and awareness activities. The signature project of the Club is Cancer Awareness.
The club has been engaged in service activities like annadaana to charitable organisations and orphanages, donation of PPE kits and face shields to corona warriors, supplying essential kits to migrant workers during lockdown, supporting happy schools, donating tab to SSLC students, pulse polio program, career guidance and empowerment activities for the youth, support to anagnwadi centres and several more. This club has also been supporting Happy Schools and aids Kannada medium schools at Lady Hill, Bejai and Anegudi. The Club also donates food grains and essential items to various old age homes and orphanages and special schools. The Club had supported DayaNilaya Special School at Kumta to participate in Special Olympics.
The Rotary Club of Mangalore Sunrise as a part of silver jubilee celebration, has been doing several community service projects. They have recently renovated the classrooms and the toilet complex in the Lady Hill Kannada Medium School, Mangaluru with a district grant from RI district 3181.
As a part of the celebration, the Department of Posts is releasing a special cover to mark the silver jubilee. The special cover will be released at 4PM on 12th February, 2021 at Head Post Office, Pandeshwar by Shriharsha N, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Mangaluru division in the presence of Rotarian M Ranganath Bhat, District Governer RI district 3181. The cover has been designed by RtnDr. Nagesh KR and RtnDr.Animesh Jain. The cover has been generously sponsored by Rtn Dr. Ravish Thunga and Rtn Dr Hansraj Alva of Vinaya Hospital and Research Centre and Rtn Joseph Disilva, proprietor of Bon Masala, all being members of the club. The special cover depicts the activities and the service projects of the club and also has a silver jubilee logo. There's also a special cancellation cachet which will be affixed on these covers making it a collector's item. The cover is priced at ₹20 including stamp and cancellation charges and limited quantity is available from Philatelic bureau or by conatcting Dr Animesh Jain. This cover also becomes more significant because this is the first time Department of Post is releasing a special cover on any Rotary Clubs in Mangalore
The club is also releasing a specially designed T-shirt for its members on this occasion. There's also a trip down memory lane being planned as a get-together of its members along with the Charter President and members, governer's special representative, Rotarian Amitav Bhargav and then district governer Rotarian Vishwanath Mallya.
