Puttur: St. Philoemna Amateur Astronomy Club (SPAAC) has organized a program to watch the partial Solar eclipse occurred on October 25th.
SPAAC has been regularly organizing number of programs such as star gazing, lectures, webinars and workshops to promote Science and Astronomy and reach the general public. Solar Eclipse is a celestial event where the moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, so that the shadow of the moon falls on the Earth. For the people in the shadow region will then observe the Solar Eclipse – either fully or partially depending on the on the alignment of the Sun, Moon and the Earth. If they are not in collinear, then the solar eclipse occurs partially. One has to be careful in watching the solar eclipse, since the bright sunlight may damage the eye permanently.
SPAAC has arranged the Astronomical Telescope fitted with the Solar filterand also the specially designed Sun Glass to watch the celestial spectacle. Dev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of the College, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan, the Principal of St. Philoemna PU College, Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, the Campus Director and good number of students and teachers gathered and watched the partial solar eclipse occurred after 5pm on 25th October.
Dr AP Radhakrishna, the Vice Principal and the Coordinator of SPAAC has arranged the program with the help of Vipin Nayak and Abhishek Suvarna and other members.
