Puttur, Aug,22: An 8-hour hackathon program was organized for students of Computer Applications and Computer Science at the Innovation Center of the college under the joint auspices of the Department of Computer Science, Postgraduate Computer Applications Department and Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) of St Philomena College(Autonomous). The inaugural program was presided over by the Principal of the college, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro. Speaking after lighting the lamp and inaugurating the event, he said, “Creativity means imagining new things and putting them into practice. It is heartening to see our students participating in such programs that develop creativity in large numbers. In this era where technology is an integral part of life, every idea you come up with through its proper use will help bring about positive change in society. Every small effort you make can have a big impact on society. Use gadgets and technology responsibly for constructive work instead of creating chaos in society,” and he congratulated the organizers for motivating the students.

MCA student Nirmitha and group prayed. Dr Vinaychandra, Dean and Head of the Computer Science Department of the college, welcomed the gathering and gave the introductory remarks. MCA student Niriksha thanked and Apoorva compered the program. Abhishek Suvarna, District Innovative Associate of Innovation Center of the college, and Dr Geetha Purnima, Coordinator of the IIC unit, were present on the stage.

23 teams of three students each participated in the program. There were three categories - education, health and sustainable environment - and the students were given the opportunity to propose dynamic, creative and actionable solutions to problems on topics of their choice. 

Varija M, Akshata B, Suraksha S, Chaitra NP, Neelam Kuttappa, Keerthana P, Shraddha AS, Jayashree H, Rashmi V, Fatimath Sanida, Sameeda, Shruti Rai and Shodhan PG of Department of Computer Science guided the students. First MCA students Chaitanya, Chaitanya K. Harinakshi Pooja, Shilpa, and Shreya assisted in the smooth running of the program. Throughout the program, the students displayed commitment, discipline, creativity, and extraordinary team spirit. Overall, the program succeeded in creating inspiring and unforgettable feelings in everyone who participated.
