Karwar, Nov. 20: Police conducted a surprise raid on the district jail in Karwar in Uttara Kannada district and seized a mobile phone and other prohibited items from the prisoner during the inspection.

PSI Srikanth Rathod of Karwar Traffic Station, who was in charge of a special team formed under the guidance of the District Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Police, raided the jail of the district jail Karwar.

During the inspection, a banned keypad mobile phone was found in the possession of an undertrial prisoner named Mohammad Naufal (32) in cell 8 of the inner cell barracks of the jail. Also, during the inspection of cell 9 of the same barracks, 1 bidi packet, 1 matchbox, 1 yellow lighter and 3 small paper packets filled with a suspicious substance that looked like dried green chilli powder were found in a plastic carry bag.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) SV Girish has registered a case in this regard at the Karwar Town Police Station and further investigation is underway.
