Mangaluru, July 21: Esteemed Konkani writer Philomena Gladys Sequeira, popularly known as Gladys Rego, passed away on Monday, July 21. She was 80.
Born in Bendur, Mangaluru in 1945, Rego was a celebrated voice in Konkani literature. Over her prolific career, she penned 27 books spanning short stories, folklore, biography, and research. Her body of work includes four short story volumes, six books on folk traditions, and two additional story collections.
Rego served as a member of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and was recognized with several literary honors, including the Daiji Dubai and Sandesha Awards. She also contributed significantly to the St Aloysius Konkani Institute and was instrumental in publishing numerous Konkani works.
Her passing leaves a lasting void in the Konkani literary world.
