Kathmandu: Nepal's central bank today released new Rs 100 bank notes. It features a revised map of the disputed Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura areas, which India calls "artificial expansion".

The new note, issued by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), bears the signature of former Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari. The date of issue of the bank note is mentioned as 2081 BS, which indicates the previous year (2024).

Under the government led by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, Nepal updated the map of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura areas with the approval of the Parliament in May 2020.

The new Rs 100 note Clarifying the updated version of the map, an NRB spokesperson said that the map was already on the old Rs. 100 bank note and it has been revised as per the government's decision.

There is no map on the various denominations of bank notes like Rs. 10, Rs. 50, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000. But only the Rs. 100 bank note has a map of Nepal, he clarified.

India claims that Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura belong to our country.

In 2020, India reacted sharply to this, calling Nepal's revised map a "unilateral action" and warning Kathmandu that "artificial expansion" such as territorial claims was unacceptable.
