Bantwala, June 26: “Shefins Trust, Udupi, which has started a special movement called Save Kannada Media Schools by Teaching Spoken English in South Kannada and Udupi Districts, trains teachers in Spoken English and other education-related subjects and through them, imparts spoken English training to the children of the schools they teach and thereby trying to save Kannada medium schools. It is a combination of women empowerment, child empowerment, and Save Kannada medium school – all three campaigns. The aim is to reach at least 300 schools in both districts this year,” said Manoj Kadaba, Director of Shefins, Udupi.

As part of this movement, he was presiding over the opening ceremony of the training workshop being held at Nalkemaru Government Higher Primary School, Bantwala Taluk, under the auspices of Aerya Alva Foundation for the interested teachers of Nalkemaru, Brahmarakootlu, and Ajjibettu government schools of Bantwala Taluk.

“The training provided to the school teachers and students throughout the year is completely free and they only need donor support for the books they need. More than 30 schools have already promised to join hands in this movement. The next training will be held in Udupi district and it will start on 8th July.

Alumni of all the government and aided schools of both the districts, SDMCs, JCs, Lions, Rotary, Giants, Yuvaka  Yuvathi Mandalas, and all interested donors are requested to come forward to take advantage of this in their hometown schools and those who are interested can contact the phone number 9008418534,” he said.

The training workshop was inaugurated by  Chandrahasa Shetty, Chairman of the Nalkemaru School Adoption Committee. A video message from  Balakrishna Hegde, Head of Airya Alva Foundation, was played in the meeting. Madhusudhan Shenoy, President of Kalliige Gramabhivriddhi Sangh, Jyoti Kumari, Headmistress of Nalkemaru School, and Vijay Kumar, President of the School Development Committee were the chief guests. Sheba hosted the program and  Princi gave the vote of thanks. Ijaz Manna and selected teachers of all three schools were present.
