Mangaluru: In the fond remembrance of former Union Minister Late George Fernandes, road from Circuit House to Bejai Circle, Mangaluru was named after him. This road is officially named as "George Fernandes Road" by Manglore City Corporation. George Fernandes, native of Mangalore and later on became politician.

In road naming ceremony, Sudhir Shetty inaugurated in the presence of MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Ivan Dsouza, Bharat Shetty and others.

Mayor Sudhir Shetty stated, "Its a utmost proud moment for me. and inaugurating this road after the such eminent personality is one of the greatest moment of my life. He fought for people rights and earned respect wherever he went. As a Defense Minister his work was commendable."

MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, "The efforts of Richard Moras have paid off today. I salute to such a greatest leader who made us and our Mangalore proud. He ensured connectivity to Goa and Mumbai from Mangaluru by launching the Konkan Railways. The contributions of George Fernandes should be included in textbooks to educate future generations."

Cap. Brijesh Chowta spoke "George Fernandes acted as voice for the voiceless. He is role model to everyone and inspiration to every generation. Its a proud moment that Mangalore road is being named after him."

MLC Ivan Dsouza remarked, "I thank our MCC, Sudhir Shetty, Kamath and all who had taken initiative in naming this road after George Fernandes. His contribution to our country and towards its development are the one's to be always remembered. He inspired millions with his simple lifestyle"

Corporator Lohith Amin welcomed the gathering.
