Mangalore: The waves of Someshwar Beach echoed with calm, strength, and clarity this International Yoga Day as Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada, hosted the second edition of Yoga With Yodha - an annual initiative that blends wellness, nature, and community spirit.

After last year’s successful debut at Sasihitlu Beach, this year’s edition chose the tranquil and storied coast of Someshwar, inviting participants to explore not just asanas, but the deeper meaning of yoga as possibility.

“Yoga is not just about bending the body. It’s about bending the mind, becoming willing. Even one asana practiced with sincerity can change something within,” said Captain Chowta, addressing the participants gathered early evening here.

He urged citizens to carry the spirit of Yoga Day into their everyday lives.

“What if every Sunday, or at least once a month, we came together like this, with family and friends, to practice yoga by the beach? It could become a tradition unique to Kudla.”

Stressing on the power of collective intent, Captain Chowta, said “We often say ‘namage yoga illa’ when things don’t go our way. But yoga is not about fate - but our own willingness. Potential backed by willingness can create the possibilities we want. Mangalore has the potential, the people, the spirit. We just have to make the yoga happen.”

The event was not just about physical wellness but also a vision for Dakshina Kannada’s cultural and civic transformation. “We are our own unique coast. By making our beaches centres of yoga, culture, and adventurelike Sasihitlu,  we can invite the world on our terms.”

Drawing inspiration from the transformation of Somnath in Gujarat, Captain Chowta reflected on Someshwar’s potential, saying “Like how Somnath was reimagined under the vision of our Prime Minister of ‘Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi’, we too can develop Someshwar as a spiritual and cultural destination, without disturbing its serenity. It begins with us deciding to make it happen.”

The event concluded with a community yoga session and a pledge to transform Dakshina Kannada both within and beyond, by unlocking possibilities within individuals, and reimagining the coast as a space of mindful tourism, community strength, and cultural resurgence.
