Mangalore: Canara Engineering College (Estd: 2001), a unit of Canara High School Association of Mangaluru has got NBA Accreditation for four of its Undergraduate Programmes till 2022. Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering are the four UG courses which have been accredited by National Borad of Accreditation, New Delhi.

The Accreditation obtained was mainly based on the quality of education, Academic results, good infrastructure, scholarships, Social outreach programmes, MoU’s with Industries, Student Mentoring which emphasized on Outcome Based Education to make the students Industry ready, resulting in excellent Placement records with 602 offers last year and a total of 1078 graduates being placed with 1486 offers from last 3 years.

Canara High School Association of Mangaluru is the guiding force behind Canara Engineering College with the motto of imparting quality education at affordable cost which is run by leading entrepreneurs voluntarily contributing scholarships and all possible assistance for the cause of education along with donors and alumni.


Brief notes on key points MOUS : In order to make students ready for the industry, we have signed MoU with seven industries, viz. Abhay industries, Ajith enterprises, Ace Micromatic solutions, Bengaluru,Machenn, CoimbatoreSlekin solutions, Fiabilite industries, Bengaluru, and Ethnus, Bengaluru.

WHAT IS OBE? :Outcome based education (OBE) is student-centered instruction model that focuses on measuring student performance through outcomes. Outcomes include knowledge, skills and attitudes. Its focus remains on evaluation of outcomes of the program by stating the knowledge, skill and behavior a graduate is expected to attain upon completion of a program and after 4 – 5 years of graduation. In the OBE model, the required knowledge and skill sets for a particular engineering degree is predetermined and the students are evaluated for all the required parameters (Outcomes) during the course of the program.

We have initiated OBE activities like mini and micro projects, student level skill development activities, discussion of case studies, additional lab courses, expert talks on recent trends of the software and hardware courses like python, raspberry pi, IoT etc. Some of these activities have also been linked with IA marks to make students participate with enthusiasm

148 students registered for NPTEL, 118 students cleared and Two with Elite grade. More than 100 mini projects have been developed by students some of these projects are taken up as major projects.

Under social outreach program students have participated in more than 50 programs related to creating awareness in society for sustainability and technology utilization. 

Why accreditation?

The purpose of the accreditation by NBA is to promote and recognize excellence in technical education in colleges and universities - at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels. Institutions, students, employers, and the public at large all benefit from the external verification of quality provided through the NBA accreditation process. They also benefit from the process of continuous quality improvement that is encouraged by the NBA's developmental approach to promote excellence in technical education. Through accreditation, the following main purposes are served:

• Support and advice to technical institutions in the maintenance and enhancement of their quality of provision;

• confidence and assurance on quality to various stakeholders including students;

• assurance of the good standing of an Institution to government departments and other interested bodies;

• enabling an Institution to state publicly that it has voluntarily accepted independent inspection and has satisfied all the requirements for satisfactory operation and maintenance of quality in education.

The purpose and impact of accreditation goes far beyond quality assurance of an Institution and its programs. Major impacts of accreditation system are summarized below:
