Mangalore: As per the tradition, the breeding time of fish stoppage of fishing declared from April 15 til June 30th.

This time due to corona and from the fear of spreading of infection the restart of fishing was not allowed on July 1st as per every year.

Now District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary announced the fishing season will begin by next September. 

This is a relief to the fishermen for their livelihood. The central market where highest fish is sold was closed totally. The daily bread earners by selling fish were really abandoned from their work. 

After this announcement the fish lovers of coastal area are happy to know that there will be availability of fresh catches rather a frozen which is available now in the market.

In the meeting held on restart of fishing activities District in-charge said "About 75 percent of fishermen are from outside states and must apply for 'Seva sindhu' before they arrive in the state. Other state workers who come in with a negative report under the Covid test are only allowed to enter our district. The covid guidelines are mandatory for 14 days in Quarantine. Respective Fishing owners should take care of the workers who arrive from other states."

"The covid test of workers who come from outer states are done for free of charge by district. The workers are allowed to stay in quarantine in their boats by maintaining 3 meter distance between themselves. The officers of Fishing department are responsible for this."

"Regular sanitization of fishing market should be done, in the coming days more developments will be undertaken."
