Mangaluru, Aug 29: Eric Alexander Ozario konkani activist and famous singer, composer and screen writer passes away on Friday August 29. He died at 76. He was suffering from kidney disease.
Ozario born on May 18,1949 in Jeppu Mangaluru played pivotal roles in promoting and preserving Konkani Language through his efforts. He founded Mandd Sobhann organization dedicated to nuture Konkani Language and established Kalaangan konknai heritage center that conserve Konkani tradition and learning hub.
His love and efforts towards Konkani has earned him various awards and tittles like Konkani Kala Samrat in 1994, Konkani ratna, Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1993, Karnataka Konknai Sahitya Academy Award in 199. Lifetime Achievement Awards by Daijidubai and Konkani Nataka Sabha and also received International Recognition.
He is survived by his wife, noted singer Joyce Fontes from Jeppu, two children – Dr Rashmi Kiran and Rithesh Kiran – and his son-in-law, well-known music director Alwyn Fernandes.
Funeral Details Mass on Sunday, August 31, at 11:15 am at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia. Public viewing of the remains at Kalaangann from 1 pm to 4:30 pm and last rites at 4:30 pm at Boloor crematorium.
