Mangaluru, Feb 7: The foundation stone laying ceremony of the city office of Diva Jeevana Amrita Trust was held at Rohan Estate at Paldane in the city this morning.
The trust has been financially helping the poor in society and has borne the complete education expenses of more than 200 children of poor widows.
The programme began with a prayer led by Fr. Alban D’Souza, parish priest of Paldane St. Theresa Church, and resident priest Fr. Silvester, and they wished all round success to the organization.
Rohan Monteiro, managing director of Rohan Corporation, who was the chief guest, requested the cooperation of everyone for the organisation that serves society.
Another dignitary, Walter Nandalike, managing director of Daijiworld Media, stressed the importance of donating a portion of one's earnings to society.
Guests Hemacharaya, trustee of the Ian Care Foundation, Roshan Belman, trustee of the Humanity Trust Belman; E. Fernandes, director of Four Winds Mass Communications; and Mohammed Iqbal, of Engineering Consultants, spoke on the occasion and wished the organisation the very best.
Dennis Mascarenhas, founder of the trust, welcomed the gathering. He briefly introduced the organisation and said that the trust has already adopted 17 families, irrespective of caste or religion.
Trustees Ronald D’Souza, Floyd D’Mello, Austin Fernandes, Jerome Sequeira, Sujit Kumar, secretary of St Theresa Church Austin Monteiro, and nuns of the convent were present.
William Lobo, former vice president of St. Theresa Church, compered the event. He was assisted by Helen Lobo, president of Mother Mary Sodality.
