Patna, Nov. 19: The newly elected MLAs elected JDU (U) chief Nitish Kumar as the leader of the legislature party at a meeting of the JDU legislature party held in Bihar's capital Patna on Wednesday.

Minister of State Shravan Kumar said that this decision was taken even before the NDA meeting. Nitish Kumar is expected to be elected as the leader of the NDA legislature party later.
The NDA won a landslide victory in the recently concluded assembly elections, and Nitish Kumar will take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record 10th time at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Thursday.
The NDA won 202 seats in the 243-member assembly, while the BJP won 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5 and RLM 4.
NDA allies have been in tough talks for the last few days to get key portfolios in the new Bihar cabinet, TNIE reported.
The post of Speaker is expected to remain with the BJP. But Nitish Kumar is likely to retain the Home portfolio.
The names of two key BJP leaders have already been considered for the Speaker's post, and one of them will be finalised at the BJP Legislature Party meeting in Patna today, sources said.
Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha appointed as DCMs
The BJP has elected Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha as its legislature party leaders, and the two are likely to take oath as deputy chief ministers tomorrow in the new NDA government led by Nitish Kumar.
