Mandya: DCM D.K. Shivakumar assured that the permanent drinking water supply project for Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Channapatna and Magadi taluks of Bengaluru South district will be completed by December this year.

Today, he performed a shovel puja near the Sattegal dam and inspected the site for the initial phase of the project. Speaking later, he said that this project has been undertaken at a cost of Rs 540 crore. We had promised during the Channapatna by-election that we would provide drinking water to Ramanagara district. We are committed to this promise. Earlier, when I was the Irrigation Minister, this project was launched. However, I have come to inspect why it is being delayed. He said that 3.30 TMC of water is being released at a very low amount.

The officials inquired about the delay in the work and whether there were any obstacles in the progress of the project from the engineers of Megha Engineering Company, Hyderabad. They received detailed information about the progress of the project.

After this, they inspected the tunnel being drilled to drain water up to Iggalur Barrage and the quality of its lining work along with immediate past MP D.K. Suresh, MLAs C.P. Yogeshwar, Kadalur Uday, Legislative Council members S.Ravi, Sudham Das.

To a question from the media about whether farmers' land will be acquired, farmers' land is being acquired as per the need. The Mandya District Collector has been instructed to provide good compensation to the farmers who have provided land for the project and cooperated. This project will help in increasing groundwater levels and alleviate the drinking water woes of the people of the district,” he said.
