Bengaluru: The country's senior eminent litterateur Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa passed away in Bengaluru yesterday afternoon at the age of 94 due to age-related illness. His last rites have been scheduled to be performed tomorrow morning (Sep. 26) at the foot of Chamundi Hills in Mysore with full state honours.

Public darshan in Bengaluru, Mysore today

The last rites will be performed tomorrow according to Brahmin tradition after his son Ravi Shankar arrives from London today.

Arrangements have been made for public darshan in Bengaluru and Mysore after 8 am today. His family and followers have appealed to Bhyrappa's fans and literature lovers to come to Ravindra Kalakshetra and have their last rites. The family has also requested that no one should come to the hospital today.


Last rites in Mysore

After the public darshan at Rabindra Kalakshetra, the mortal remains will be respectfully taken to Mysore in the afternoon. Arrangements have been made for the final rites of Bhyrappa, who was originally from Mysore, there as well.


Tomorrow's funeral

The mortal remains will be kept at Bhyrappa's residence in Kuvempunagar on Friday morning, September 26. After performing the puja rituals, the last rites will be performed at the foot of Chamundi Hills as per Brahmin tradition.


Renowned novelist

S.L. Bhyrappa has written twenty-six novels including 'Vamshavruksha', 'Parva', 'Sartha' and 'Avarana'. His writings, which critically examine current society, history and human relations, have gained an indelible place in the minds of Kannada readers.
