Bengaluru, Sep 27: The Karnataka government has sanctioned Rs 60.36 crore to pay the team of 1.2 lakh enumerators deployed for the state's historic socio-educational survey that began on September 22.
Each enumerator who conducts the survey will be paid Rs 5,000 plus Rs 100, while the supervising officers will get Rs 10,000 each. Those working in the areas of the Bruhat Bengaluru Authority will get an additional allowance to cover their additional expenses as per the Bengaluru rates.
Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission Member-Secretary K.D. Dayanand clarified that the money will be released in phases. Two provisions have been imposed on the use of the grant. The grant should be used to pay the first installment of honorarium of Rs 5,000 each to the surveyors.
The remaining funds will be released in subsequent installments. The funds released for the survey should be maintained separately, the details of expenditure should be maintained and the expenditure certificate should be submitted to the commission after the expenditure is incurred as per the rules.
In Bengaluru alone, 2.74 lakh households will be surveyed, covering about 3.48 crore people. Across the state, every district, taluk, hobli and wards will be covered till May 7, 2026.
The enumerators will collect details on caste, education, employment, housing, health, sanitation, water and electricity. The government has urged citizens to cooperate, stressing that the findings will shape future welfare policies for the backward classes.
The Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission has said that participation of citizens/families in the social, economic and educational survey is voluntary and there is no compulsion.
The Member-Secretary of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission said that while the survey is intended to cover the entire population of the state, it has been clarified that participation of citizens/families is voluntary and there is no compulsion on their part to disclose information.
