Bengaluru, July 27: Basavaraj S Bommai has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka Today on July 27. He replaced BS Yediyurappa as the 20th Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Bommai, who was the Home Minister, and Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation Minister of Karnataka in the outgoing Yediyurappa Cabinet, had earlier refuted speculations of him becoming the next CM of Karnataka.
The 61-year-old leader is the son of former Karnataka CM SR Bommai.
He served as a Haveri and Udupi District incharge minister and previously served as Minister for Water resources and Cooperation.
In 1995 and 2004 he was elected as a member of Karnataka Legislative Council from Dharwad local authorities constituency. Late in 2008 Febraury he left Janatha Dal and joined BJP and in the same year he was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Shiggaon constituency in Haveri district.
