Kozhikode, Kerala: An Air India Express skid carrying 191 people on the runway of the Karipur Airport in Kerala was on Friday. According to reports, 14 people were killed in the crash, 123 were injured and 15 were seriously injured. The victims were taken to a hospital.
There were 184 passengers on board, including ten children, two pilots and five cabin crew.
Kondotti police said that the IX-1344 flight from Dubai to Khozikode landed at Karipur airport at around 7.45 pm.
The plane crashed about 35 feet and the front half was damaged. Reports said people in the back half survived. Air India's IX-344 flight arrived in Kerala from Dubai under the Vande Bharat mission. The NDRF has is engaged in rescue operations. The DGCA has ordered a detailed investigation of the incident. More than 50 passengers were injured. 20 ambulances rushed to the scene and injured were taken to the hospitals.
The torrential downpour of rain at the airport has hampered relief efforts. There were 191 passengers on the plane at the time of the accident. The accident occurred while Air India was carrying passengers as part of the Vande Bharat mission. Fortunately the fire has not escalated . DGCA said the accident was caused by heavy rain.
