Puttur, July 20: St Philomena College (Autonomous) successfully concluded a five-day Student Induction Programme designed to welcome and orient newly admitted students of the academic year 2025-26. The programme, held at the SJM Hall, aimed to familiarize freshers with the college’s academic structure, resources, and value-based ethos while instilling confidence and a sense of belonging.

The inaugural day featured a warm welcome by Dr Edwin S D’Souza, Coordinator, followed by an academic overview from Vice Principal Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar. The SIP included informative talks by Dr Vinay Chandra, Registrar (Evaluation), on academic assessments; Tejaswi Bhat, Assistant Professor of Commerce, on scholarship opportunities; and Dr Elias Pinto, Director of Physical Education, on sports and fitness initiatives. Sessions on technological resources, library orientation, and cybercrime awareness by Abdul Rahiman G. and the Police Department set the tone for the week. Ice-breaker activities and a briefing on classroom discipline helped students ease into their new environment.

Subsequent days offered a diverse mix of sessions: EC and extension activities by Vasudeva N and Johnson D. Sequeira; sports and fitness insights from Dr Elias Pinto; placement guidance by Dr Geetha Poornima K and Abhishek Suvarna; and sensitization programs on anti-ragging by Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, anti-women harassment by Noveline D’Souza, anti-drugs vigilance by Dr Chandrashekar K, and anti-human trafficking led by Bharathi S Rai.

Day 4 began with session on “National and International Days of Significance” led by Prashanth Rai, emphasizing the importance of commemorative events in shaping civic responsibility. This was followed by insights into NSS, NCC, Rovers & Rangers, and cultural activities by Dr Chandrashekar, Johnson D Sequeira, Khalander Sherief, and Prashanth Rai.

The highlight of the day was the “Emerging Echoes” Talent Exhibition, coordinated by Poojashree V Rai, where freshers showcased their creative and performing arts. Skill-building workshops on time management, classroom etiquette, presentation, public speaking, and goal setting were hosted by senior faculty. Dr Radhakrishna Gowda served as the host for the day, ensuring a smooth flow of sessions.

The final day focused on institutional digital platforms, peer mentoring, and inspirational interactions with senior students. The programme concluded with reflections from Dr Malini K., Geetha Poornima K., and Abhishek Suvarna, with Dr Edwin S D’Souza proposing the vote of thanks.
