Puttur: Department of Physics UG & PG in association with National Service Scheme unit (NSS) of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur celebrated National Space Day “Aryabhata to Gaganyaan” at the college’s SJM hall.
Dr Sangeethalaxmi M J, Assistant Professor and Senior Medical Officer, Yenepoya naturopathy and yogic science College and Hospital Mangalore and Member,
Amaeteur Astronomers’ Association, Mangalore was a resource person who gave a talk on “Fascinating Universe - a Journey into Space” highlighted to be curious about everything around us, which makes us calm, humble and focused in life. She urged the students to develop interest in Physics and to contribute to the space science.
In his Presidential Address, Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Vice Principal of the college, briefed the students about the Achievements of India in Space science from ancient days to now. He also added the importance of research for a nation’s growth and development. He encouraged the students to involve actively in all activities along with the studies and congratulated the staff for organising the event.
Dr K Chandrashekar, HoD Physics and NSS officer, Sujith S, Assistant Professor, PG department of Physics were present.
On account of national space day, competitions were conducted to the students and the prizes were distributed.
The program started with a prayer by Manasa and team, Dr K Chandrashekar, delivered the welcome address and gave introductory remarks, Sujith S introduced the resource person, Krithi A, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Physics proposed vote of thanks. The event was compered by Poojashree V Rai, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.
