Mangaluru: St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, celebrated the achievements of 544 students in sports and academics by awarding them scholarships worth Rs 30lacs on 4th & 5th October 2023 in LCRI Hall.
The Scholarships ceremony 2023-24 was held to recognise and reward the students with Vidwath Spoorthi (Merit Scholarships), Kreeda Spoorthi (Sports Scholarships) and Vidya Spoorthi (Merit-cum-need Scholarships).
Dr Anand K, IAS, CEO of D.K. Zilla Panchayath was the guest of honour on 4th October 2023. Addressing the students, he emphasised the importance of excelling in one's chosen area of interest and the need for hard work. He highlighted that knowledge, attitude, and skills are essential for success, and students should be prepared to face both successes and failures, as neither is final.
Fr Francis Xavier Gomes, Former Principal of St Philomena College, Puttur, was the Chief Guest. He encouraged students to tap into their potential and utilise their capabilities with willpower. He stressed the importance of having dreams and a winning attitude, along with administrative and organisational skills. He favoured achievers over toppers, as they contribute to the nation's progress.
Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte Deemed-to-be-University was the Chief Guest on 5th October 2023. Addressing the students, he congratulated the recipientsof Vidyaspoorthi Scholarship. He reminisced his school and college days at St Aloysius College where his father, grandfather and uncle who were the notable alumni of this prestigious institution. He urged the student recipients to remember the help given by the College and give back to the needy whenever they can.
Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Fr Melwin J Pinto, lauded the scholarship recipients as role models and inspirations for others. Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ was present.
Finance Officer, Fr Vincent Pinto also attended these eventsand briefed about Vidwathspoorthi, Kreedaspoorthi & Vidyaspoorthi scholarships.
Dr Alwyn D'Sa, Registrar welcomed the gathering. Arun M D' Souza, Director of Physical Education and Jennifer Ida Mascarenhas, Dean of Extension Services proposed the vote of thanks. The events were compered by Rohan Machado, III BA and Sheikh Shakeer Ali, III BA.
