Mangaluru: Fr. Baptist Menezes(75) served as Vicar General of Udupi Diocese in 2012-2022 passed away on Wednesday August 23, 2023. He was the first Vicar General appointed for New Udupi Diocese in 2012.
Hailing from Shirva church, born on July 28, 1948, son of son of the late Louis Menezes and the late Mary Magdelene Menezes, ordained for Diocese of Mangalore on October 25, 1974. After serving in various diocese intuition's posts he deputed for higher studies to Rome in 1977 and completed his Phd studies in 1982. Later he joined as staff of St. Peter's Pnitifical Seminary at Bengaluru, there he served till 1994.
Served as, in 1995 administrator of St Joseph’s Inter-diocesan Seminary at Jeppu, Mangaluru, 1997 director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, July 6, 2007 episcopal vicar of the diocese of Udupi,
After 10 and a half years of service as Vicar General of the new Diocese of Udupi, resigned due to illness on 31 March 2023
Funeral details
The funeral mass will take place on August 27, Sunday at 3:30 pm at Our Lady of Health Church in Shirva. The mortal remains will be available for public veneration at the same venue from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
