He spoke during the National Youth Day organised by the Indian Red Cross, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu District chapters and the Youth Red Cross of Mangalore University at Ravindra Kalabhavana of University College Mangaluru on Tuesday. The event was organised on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's 159th birth anniversary celebrations and 100 years of existence of the Red Cross.
The overall development of the country is possible only through the education system. It should evoke harmony and humane values in the society. The thoughts of Swami Vivekananda, Dr B R Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi are enough to make India, a world leader, headed.
IRCS Udupi District Chapter Chairman Dr.Talluru Shivarama Shetty, stressed on teaching morals to children. IRCS Udupi Chairman Ravindra Rai opined that one should embrace the messages and ideals of Swamy Vivekananda.
In his presidential address, IRCS Dakshina Kannada District Chapter Chairman C. A. Shantaram Shetty called upon students and said “Swamy Vivekananda had called for ‘Aathmanirbhara Bharath’ 158 years ago. Read about Swamy Vivekananda, enrich your dreams with a goal for good fortune”.
At the same time, Shamant, the international trainer of the Mantra Surf Club in Mangalore, has been honoured as the 'Youth Icon’ for rescuing four people of a family, who were drowning in the sea.
University College Principal Dr. A. Harisha, Youth Red Cross Coordinator Sacheth Suvarna, Secretary H. S. Muralidhara, Yathish Baikampady, Udupi District Honorary Secretary Jayaram Acharya, Kodagu District Secretary Dhananjaya and Mangalore University Youth Red Cross Nodal Officer Ganapathi Gowda were present. Inter-College Quiz, Essay and Painting Competitions were held as a part of the National Youth Day celebrations.
