Mangalore: Milagres College, Mangalore, an institution of higher education, is committed to the holistic development of its students. Even during this intense pandemic, in order to continue the training of students the college organises a series of Student Development Programmes
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in association with different departments of the college, conducted Student Development Programmes aimed at the continuous growth and all-round development of our students through training, awareness and better prospects.

The Forum for Human Rights and Anti-Ragging cell of the college organised a Student Development Programme-1, titled “Relationships: Sizzle orFizzle” on May 26 and 28, 2021 from10.45 am-12:00 noonfor I year students of B. Com, BSc HS, BSc FND and BSc IDDsections.
Dr Sandra Lobo, HOD of Psychology, Roshni Nilaya, School of social work, was the resource person. She explained how relationship is actually definedbetween two genders. Sherequested the teens to rectify the inequality they face with their trusted peoplelike parents, friends or a therapist. She focused on the three aspects like the law ofexpectations, difference and self-image which were described by citing a case study.
Rev. Fr Michael Santhumayor, Principal, introduced the guest and welcomed the participants. Ms Anju Elsa Thomas coordinator of the forum compeered thesession and Ms Allette Santhmayer proposed the vote of thanks. 180 studentsalong with the staff members of the respective departments actively participatedand benefited from this session.
The Department of Languages (Kannada)organised a Student Development Programme -SDP 2- for the Kannada language students of 1/II-year BCom, BSc FND and BSc IDD titled “NamageNamma Kannada” on May 27, 2021 from 3.00- 4:00 pm .
Prof. Sudharani, Department of Kannada, Alvas Education Foundation(R), Moodbidre was the resource person. In her session she enlightened the students regarding the prominence of Kannada language and how it has been losing its identity at present. She was of the opinion that Kannada language is used to the minimum in communication and therefore one of the reasons for fading away. She urged the youngsters regarding the need of its revival and suggested that it could be done easily by using the language in our day-to-day conversation. 60 students participated in the session. Mrs Sowmya Kotian programme coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
The department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics organized a Student Development Programme -SDP 3- on “The Roleof Dietician in Hospital” on May 29, 2021from 3:00- 4:00 pm.
The resource person was Dt. ArunaMallaya, Senior Dietician, KMCHospital, Mangalore. She focused on the role played a dieticianin the hospital. She emphasized that in order to become a good dieticianhe/ she should have a good knowledge about therapeutic diet, diet counselling, nutrition and along with that a person must have goodcommunication skill and confidence.
It was an interactive sessionwherein the students’ queries were clarified. Ms Mahima Ruhi, student representative, introduced and welcomedthe resource person. Ms Riya D’Souza, proposed the vote of thanks.A total of 100 participants which included students and faculty of the FND department actively participated inthis session.
The Department of Hospitality Science conducted a Student Development Programme-SDP4-on the topic “Beverage Industry and its Prospects”, on May 29, 2021 from 11.00am to 12.00 noon.
Mr Hemraj Shettigar, Flair Bartender, Fushifaru - Maldives, was the resource person.Addressing the students he focused on the importance of beverage industry, the changing trends and the possible career students could have in the industry. He motivated the students as to how they could begin as a bartender and with hard work in the respective field could lead them to success. The focus of this programme was to enlighten the students on how to build a career in the Beverage Industry and also become a successful Flair Bartender.
Mr Vinod Kumar, Managing Partner Martiny Mixology, Rev. Fr Micheal L Santhumayor, Principal, Mr Denzil Celestine D’Costa, Head of Department of Hospitality Science were present.
Around 98 members including students and staff were present and benefited from the program.
