Mangalore: Members of the project displaced families affected by the formation of GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd after the takeover of erstwhile JBF Petrochemical Ltd. in Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) received the joining orders from MP Captain Brijesh Chowta in Mangaluru today.
“It is the grace of all the powers that guard this land that has ensured this issue has been resolved within days of our pursuing it. And it gives me immense joy and contentment to have been able to be a voice of our people and to stand here today and distribute the joining order” said Captain Brijesh Chowta at a function held for the same, expressing contentment at having been able to resolve the long pending issue.
“This is a a huge testimony to the good governance model of our govt led by PM Narendra Modi where the welfare of every Bharateeya is the key driving force.I would like to reiterate my gratitude to our Hon’ble Union Minister of Petroleum Hardeep Singh Puri who responded to our request and spearheaded the resolution of this long pending issue” he added.
Captain Brijesh Chowta also thanked all local leaders & public representatives who have worked for this over the years and enabled the resolution.
GAIL India acquired JBF Petrochemicals' PTA plant in June 2023, forming GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals. As part of the original lease, JBF Petrochemicals promised 115 displaced families full-time jobs, but GMPL had only considered contract-based jobs for Project Displaced Families (PDFs).
Captain Chowta had effectively pursued the matter with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and urged the Union Minister to intervene and take appropriate measures to secure the future of the PDFs by providing them with the necessary employment.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri convened a meeting of all concerned officials on 07 August 2024, assuring quick resolution of the issues. Within less than 40 days of the same, the issue had been resolved much to the relief of the concerned families.
