Mangalore:Konkani Weekly in 4 Scripts - Dr Austin Prabhu, USA Achievement.In an unique way to bridge the gap among konkani readers spread over 4 states of Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala writing in scripts namely Devnagari, Kannada, Roman and Malayalam, Chicago based Mangalorean writer, playwright Dr Austin Prabhu, has been publishing a weekly VEEZ KONKANI. He has consistently published 100 issues, each issue consisting 100+ pages and 101 th issue is ready for release Sunday on 24th November 2019. To mark this occasion Dr Austin Prabhu is in India and 101th Special Issue will be released in a glittering ceremony to be held in St Agnes College College at 6.00 p. m sharp.
Basti VamanShenony, Chairman of World Konkani Centre, Eric Ozario, Gurkar, ManddaSobhan, Daijiworld Monthly editor in chief, Hemacharya, Singer Composer Vihwas Rebimbus and Rev Sr. Dr . Jeswina, Principal of St Agnes College will be chief guests on this occasion. Fr. Chethan Lobo, former editor of Uzwad will preside over the function.
Every year, VEEZ KONKANI organizing literary competitions in TWO scripts, devnagari and kannada since last year in memory of Konkani Music Legend Late Wilfy Rebimbus and Prizes of the competition will be distributed in the programme. Website of Ashwadi Prakashan and 'EkNovo Somsar' Book by Fr. Chethan Lobo will also be released in the programme.
The programme will be concluded with a multilingual music concert Sur Project by Jaison J Sequeira. Dr Austin Prabhu requests Konkani Lovers to attend the programme in large scale.
About Dr Austin and VEEZ KONKANI:
Austin was born in Nanthoor, Mangalore. In 70's and 80's , he was dynamic youth leader, playwright, actor in Mangalore and set a record in Konkani by editing publishing four papers at a time. (Mithr, Jhelo, Kannik and Yuvak) He was the founder secretary of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Karnataka® and his play 'AnkwarCelly' won best drama award from Goa BhashaMandal. After his migration to US he became active in Lions and became the first Governor of Indian Origin at Lions Mother District. His service to the Society has been recognized by US by naming a street after his name in Illinois province. Continuing his love for Konkani language after his retirement he started VEEZ KONKANI a weekly magazine and by making best use of KONKANVERTER, transliteration tool developed by World Konkani Centre, Mangalore started publishing it in all 4 scripts , that is Kannada, Devnagari, Roman and Malayalam. His unique idea of publishing magazine in all the 4 scripts has bridged the gap among Konkani readers spread across 4 states and VEEZ KONKANI has substantial readers across the globe. Moreover VEEZ publishes free ADVERTISEMENTS of Konkani events and it is free to read. Every issue features one Konkani achievers on cover page and carries Konkani news, articles and literature.
