Mangalore : The Centenary Programme to commemorate the life and works of BV Kakkilaya (1919-2012), a freedom fighter, a leader of the Karnataka reunification movement, member of the Rajyasabha and Karnataka legislative assembly, actively involved in social and political struggles till his last breath, an award winning writer and thinker, will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 and Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 10am, at Bishop Jathanna Auditorium, Sahodaya, YMCA Campus, Balmatta, Mangaluru, under the joint auspices of Samadarshi Vedike, Mangaluru, Hosathu Monthly, Bengaluru, MS Krishnan Memorial Trust, Bengaluru and Navakarnataka Publications private limited, Bengaluru.
Leader of the working class movement and national general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress Com. Amarjeet Kaur; youth icon, member of the national executive council of the CPI, and former President of JNU Students’ Union Dr. Kanhaiya Kumar; prominent thinker and activist Prof. Anand Teltumbde; eminent vocalist of Carnatic music, writer and thinker TM Krishna; well known writer, thinker and activist Com. Noor Zaheer; former minister of Karnataka Kagodu Thimmappa; eminent journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu; Rajya Sabha member Com. Binoy Vishwam; and prominent intellectuals, scholars and writers such as Prof. Muzaffar Assadi, Dr G Ramakrishna, Kalale Parthasarathy, Dr. Siddanagouda Patil, Dr TS Venugopal, Dr Vijay Poonacha Tambanda, Com PV Lokesh, Com. Saathi Sundaresh and others will participate in the deliberations.
The programmes will conclude with a Carnatic vocal recital by Vidwan TM Krishna, accompanied by Vidushi Akkarai Subhalakshmi on the violin and Vidwan Jayachandra Rao KU on the mridangam. Second editions of ‘Bareyada Dinachariya Bareyada Putagalu’, the autobiography of Sri BV Kakkilaya, and ‘Karl Marx: Baduku-Baraha’ and Frederick Engels: Jeevana-chintana’, the award winning books of BV Kakkilaya, will also be released on the occasion of the Centenary. Overall, these programmes have been conceptualised to reflect the multifaceted interests and works of BV Kakkilaya and we solicit the presence of all the enthusiasts.
