Mangalore: The Popular Front of India’s State President, Nasir Pasha has urged for an immediate judicial intervention to defeat the ongoing Hindutva conspiracy of targeting Muslim places of worship by engineering controversies on Mosques and claiming rights over them.
“Through individual targeting and engineering controversies on the existing historic mosques and dargah such as Ladley Mashaik Dargah of Aaland at Gulbarga, Jamiya Masjid at Gadag, Jamiya Masjid at Shrirangapatna, and recently, the Malali Masjid at Mangaluru, the RSS outfit is actively attempting to disrupt peace. It is clearly states in the 1991 Places of Worship Act that a mosque, temple, church, or any place of public worship in existence on August 15, 1947, will retain the same religious character that it had on that day – irrespective of its history – and cannot be changed by the courts or the government. The Act also mentions that all actions to change the structure of such religious structures are criminal and subject to legal punishment. Although there is ample evidence to support the historical mosques, the RSS Parivar is disregarding this law. When the majority of the Hindu society did not fall prey to their dividing tactics, astrologers were called to cast an emotional appeal to the people which is nothing but a complete mockery of this land’s law. Not just that, it is also an open threat to the legal system. The District administration which should have resolved the dispute from its very root based on existing records, and evidence has bowed to political pressure and is working in a very biased, partisan manner – this is an extremely disastrous development.”
“As per the 1991 Places of Worship Act, it is the responsibility of the Government and the Police Department to ensure the security of the places of worship and in this regard, they need to immediately act accordingly. The civic community needs to come forward to resist these dangerous attempts to diminish constitutional values and the dignity of the judiciary. Similarly, to oppose the conspiracies aimed at disrupting the peace by creating controversies on Masjid-Dargahs, in a bid to ruin the solidarity and mutual co-existence of communities, a mega people’s movement will be created to spread awareness among the public”, Nasir Pasha said.
