Mangalore:- The Institute celebrated the 74th National Independence Day with great vigour and patriotism on Aug 15, 2020. The flag hoisting ceremony was held in front of the Main Building on the account of the event. Prof. K Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of the institute unfurled the National flag which was followed by the national anthem.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Rao said, “It is a moment of pride for every citizen of our country, on this particular day we need to ask one question.  What have we gained in these 73 years of Independence? We have a country of our own, after the relentless fight we should be proud of our heritage & accomplishments.  The youth has acquired the greatest skills of 21st century, a matter of joy for the country. In order to save the country one needs to be united in thoughts, actions, and opinions.

We have been tested by COVID-19, the economy and the issues of the migrant workers, conditions of school children and the online classes,  have been some great challenges to all of us. As a single entity, we’re trying to take every emerging challenge.  Let us stand up and overcome the issues we’re facing, instead of adding to it, let us start looking at novel innovative solutions.

We have been pursuing  best and effective ways of giving back to the country specially during this pandemic, we have added new feathers to our cap by acknowledging the call of the Mangalore district administration and essentially offered 5 hostels and guest house to house the people for  isolation facilities on campus. Apart from that, NITK designed, manufactured and distributed face masks, Face Shields, Sanitizers, & also provided food materials to the needy. Saral App was developed by one of our students to help the migrant workers along with district administration of Bokaro. We at NITK have gracefully embraced the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic by taking up the online classes for students on schedule, without disturbing the academic calendar. The honorable Minister of HRD has acknowledged our efforts  through his tweet. "

Further speaking, Prof. Rao also said that he appreciated the New Education Policy 2020 which acknowledges the rapid changes in knowledge landscapes, with various scientific & technological advances, and that only providing high quality education opportunities to youth will ensure the bright future of the country.
