New Delhi, May 05 : In gang rape cases, even if only one person commits the rape, all those who cooperate with him in the act are equally liable and will be punished equally, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The court has come to the opinion that in such cases, the prosecutor is not required to collect and prove evidence against each accused.

A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and K.V. Viswanathan gave the verdict. The bench rejected the argument of one of the accused that "the rape victim's name was not mentioned in the FIR and my role was limited to cooperating with the main accused."
