Bengaluru, April 02 : A new addition to the history of Karnataka, the copper plate inscription has now come to light. This recently unearthed copper plate inscription belongs to the Vijayanagara dynasty, and this unearthed copper inscription is preserved in the city's Falcon Coins Gallery.
Dr KM Reddy, director of the Archaeological Survey of India informed about the discovered inscription at a press conference organized at Phalyan Coins Gallery in the city on Tuesday and said the copper inscription is of Karnataka origin. It was under the rule of Sangam ruler Devaraya-1 of Vijayanagara. Also, Kannada writings were found on this copper inscription in Nagari script in Sanskrit language inscribed by Vasu in 1328 CE Vaya, Kartika, Ba.10, Friday.
It represents the lineage of the Sangama dynasty beginning with Chandra, Yadu, Sangama and his five sons Harihara, Kampa, Bukya Marapa, Muddapparida. Bukka was born to Harihara and his queen Melambika. Then Devaraya was born as the son of Bukka. He informed that at the time of coronation Harihara's son King Devaraya-I renamed Gudipalli village along with two hamlets Rajendramada and Udayapalli as Devariapura-Agrahara and divided them into 61 parts.
26.5 shares for Riggedari, 29.5 shares for Yajurvedis, 3 shares for Shukla-Yajurvedis, 2 shares for Devabhaga, Samanathale, Shiva and Janardhana are mentioned in the village situated in Pura. KM Reddy informed that it is significant that Mulabagilu Rajya Hodenada-sthala is found in Kannada language in copper plates
It is interesting that Varaha, the royal emblem of the Vijayanagara Empire, is found as a seal image in place of the usual image. It mentions the date of coronation of King Devaraya which is not confirmed till now. It is learned that the grant was given while the coronation was taking place. He said that the discovery of five copperplate inscriptions is not only a historical discovery but also changes the history of the Vijayanagara Empire.
