Bengaluru, Nov 13: The Labour Department has issued an order that female employees working in industries registered under various labour laws in the state should be provided with one day of paid leave per month during their menstrual cycle.
It has been instructed to all employers to provide this facility to all permanent, contract and outsourced employees in the age group of 18 to 52 working in all sectors including industries and institutions registered under the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, Garden Workers Act, Beedi and Cigar Workers Act, Motor Transport Act.
The government had issued a notification in this regard on January 12, 2024. In addition, the Labour Department Commissioner had written a letter on 21/02/2025.
Later, this was also approved in the state cabinet meeting held on 9/10/2025.
Conditions:
1. Female employees shall utilize the menstrual leave of the respective month in the respective month itself. The menstrual leave of the previous month shall not be extended to the next month.
2. The order has been explained and ordered that female employees shall not be required to provide any medical certificate to avail one day of menstrual leave every month.
3. This leave facility is not available to women above 52 years of age.
